I just looked at the blog and realized I hadn't posted anything since May 31st and now it is June 20th. Time sure flies! I guess it doesn't help when we have had things going every weekend with barely enough time to breathe during the week! Ah such is our life...we complain but to be perfectly honest I don't know what we would do if we had nothing to do and time to sit! (: So what have we been doing you ask, well...
The weekend after Alistair's birthday was my brother's 30th birthday party (his birthday was May 27th). We went to EB Foote Winery followed by dinner and hanging out at Eliiot Bay Brewery all in Burien. The Winery has very good wines, only one wine I didn't enjoy. The Brewery is good all around, beer and food!
Next time you have some time to kill before you have to go to the airport or need a meal before you head home from the airport, go to Burien. EBB is right "downtown" Burien on the main strip. The weekend also consisted of 2 lacrosse games, finishing up the regular season and getting ready for play-offs.
The following weekend we journeyed to Queen Anne for a play-off game. The guys lost, but the fact that they made it to play-offs, or quite frankly won a game at all, is a miracle in itself. Too harsh you say, well the team has had a losing season for at least the past 2 or 3 years....one year winning only 2 games - one due to forfieture. So this year was actually fun to watch and they looked great in their last game, even with the loss!
Last weekend we went camping to Larrabee State Park in Bellingham. My cousin Grete graduated from Western and had her graduation party at the park. We decided to make a weekend of it and so did my parents and Ann and Bob. Natalie got to come camping with us Friday night and stayed with Nana and Papa in their trailer. We ended up having decent weather, at least no rain!
Natalie and Alistair and I waded in the water while Sadie swam after balls. We went for a walk to find the beach. Natalie wanted to go in and then so did Alistair to be with her and then I had to to keep Alistair from going out too far. Not exactly the temperature I would hope for. I remember once upon a time not being affected by water temperature...when you are a kid swimming is the goal and you are immune to cold. Well not anymore! I didn't feel any urges to strip down and hop in!
Alistair has recently become interested in having his photo taken. He was helping Seth pack things up in the tent and came across the camera. There is a whole series of Seth and Alistair photos. Everyone always asks where he got his gorgeous blue eyes. It would be even more evident if Seth was looking too, but you can get a good idea here! (:
There were some kids next door to us that had a bazillion riding implements and Alistair got to try-out the tricycle he was eyeing. Pretty cool!
And of course Alistair continues to be silly, grow, explore and figure things out on his own. He is doing well with speech therapy. She thinks we will be at it for a while, but he is developing ways to communicate on his own. He has learned a few more signs, has developed a few of his own and is learning a few words. He now says: Mama, Dada, Nana, Papa, Ba Ba (bye bye), Stop (Dop or Pop with his hand striaght out), Go (Do!), Yes (Da or Ja), NO (mastered this word quickly!) and sometimes tries to say Sadie. He will imitate sounds you make and will try to say something...all good things. He has also learned that if he points at himself, he is referring to himself. So now when we do anything, he points at himself to make sure he gets to too!
I got Alistair dressed to go outside and he went back upstairs and changed his shoes...even got them on the right feet! When I first bought these boots for him, I tried to try them on him in the store. He screamed, pulled his feet up, didn't even want them in the shopping cart with him. I had to sneak them into the bottom of the cart, under him, when he wasn't looking in order to buy them! It took him a while to warm up to them and now he is always trying to put them on! We have created a monster. Alistair likes to stand in his high chair. It used to be after he finished his meal, we would let him stand in it while we finished ours. Now he likes to stand-up randomly during his meal and eat. It's not acceptable, but it is kind of hard to break since we allowed it from the get-go. Now he has added on to his routine. He likes to sit on the arm of the chair and put his feet on the other arm. At least he is eating and he isn't throwing food on the floor, so I am not going to complain too much about it!
No this is not a photo from a year ago; Alistair usually plays with the front of the walker because it sits next to the desk and he likes the sounds it makes. Well I was cleaning some stuff off of the top of it this morning and he realized there was more to it, and climbed into it. I would say when they are old enough to get in themselves, they are probably too old for it! (:
