Happy Birthday Alistair, you are now 4 years old!

Our baby turned 4 on May 30th. He had almost a weeklong celebration that commenced 3 days before his birthday and ended 2 days after! He had a blast the whole time and got lots of nice, new things to wear and play with. Yesterday he had his 4 year check-up. He is 39 inches tall (25%) and 38 pounds (70%). He hasn't been above 50% in anything besides his head, so finally surpassing it in weight is pretty exciting! He passed his hearing and vision tests with flying colors and panicked so much about getting his 2 shots that he didn't even realize they were over - and no tears! All in all he came out with a clean bill of health. He has become such a little kid. Any hint of toddler is gone. School has really matured him. He is so social and very smart. His speech has made a very clear improvement over the past year. We find he can have conversations with people without us having to translate. Yesterday he told someone his name and we didn't have to clarify it for her, she got it from his pronunciation! He is very active, loves to play sports and ride his new bike and scooter, loves reading books and is really into airplanes. We are thankful everyday to have him in our lives!
Alistair's first birthday celebration was a birthday party with his friends at Jump Planet. He had 13 friends come - 8 kids from school and 5 kids from the YMCA. They had a grand old time playing on the inflatables for the first hour and 15 minutes. Then the next hour was snacks, cake and opening gifts. Alistair wasn't a fan of being sung to or having people clap when he blew out his candles. So they did it quietly and he spent the whole time with his arms wrapped around Seth's neck! On his birthday we started the morning at home. He got to open his gifts before breakfast. We gave him a Cars bike. We thought he would not be overally excited about it and maybe even reject it, but we were pleasantly surprised! He said, "Wow!" and went running over to it and hopped right on! He does pretty well on it and doesn't seem to be too scared riding, until he stops in the middle of a hill!Later that day we headed down to Olympia for a Memorial Day BBQ and also took advantage of having most of the family in one place to celebrate his birthday! We had a wonderful day, the food was excellent and everyone was very generous to Alistair. He chose a carrot cake with a dinosaur on it from Costco for his cake and then had none of it! This time around we weren't allowed to sing or clap. When he finally blew out his candle, some people forgot the rules and clapped a little for him, this upset him and we had to take a breather! (:The following Tuesday, when he went back to school, I took treats for him to share with his classmates. I didn't stay for the celebration part, but made sure to warn his teachers that he didn't like to be sung to or have clapping. I made them "ice cream" cones. It was chocolate cake and chocolate frosting and I think they were a big hit!
As I take more photos of Alistair, I am always struck by how mature he looks. He is starting to be less cute and more handsome! What happened to my baby?? Happy Birthday Buddy, we love you very, very much!
